Boat Naming - "I Name This Boat!!"Official ceremonies ( can be lots of fun ) held in honour of Naming and Re-naming your boat..."Legend has it that each vessel is recorded by name in the Ledger of the deep and is known individually by Poseidon or Neptune. Choose your name carefully as it is important to take care, because the name will probably stick with you. You, your crew and the boat could be known simply by the boat's name. Look for attributes that you would like your boat to have: it could be a special persons name, characters from some of your favourite story books; maybe your children's feistiness and strong spirit, can give you clues for the name that will best suit your boat. Now the real fun begins, why not invoke the blessing of these ancient gods of the wind and sea and have a good time while you are at it.Invite your family and friends to this auspicious occasion, the ceremony can be as simple or elaborate as you choose, bless the boat with copious amounts of Champagne, ( the gods of the sea love generousity the more champagne flowing, the better ). " Everyone also knows (or believes) that re-naming a boat can bring bad luck. So, what happens when you find that perfect boat, but you just cannot stand the name? The next step is to purge the name from the Ledger of the deep and the memory of Poseidon. The de-naming ceremony starts by an invocation, then offer a blessing to the former name, giving hon our and gratitude for its former service and all who have sailed safely in the vessel, then proceed by allowing the name to go to the everlasting sea (the offering of champagne to the great ruler of the deep, is splashed from East to West at this time). The re-naming ceremony is then generally conducted directly after the purging of the old. We will now need an abundance of champagne to celebrate this auspicious occasion, to appease the gods and honour the ceremony with family and friends..!
